Here we go!

Does the thought of scriptwriting give you anxiety?

Have you been struggling to come up with scripts and end up writing them right before you create?

Kiss writer’s block goodbye with this StoryBrand method scriptwriting hack.

According to the storytelling guru Donald Miller, there are seven essential elements to crafting a compelling narrative. When the methodology is transposed to apply to content creation, it's like having a secret formula for captivating your audience and leaving them begging for more.

So, let’s talk about each step and how to leverage them to write a killer script for your next content project.

Step 1: The Hook

I’m sure this comes as no surprise, as you’re no rookie!

Donald Miller's StoryBrand method emphasizes the importance of a strong hook to grab the audience's attention in any piece of content. As the hook is the first thing the audience hears or sees, it should highlight a problem that the audience can relate to and suggest that there is a solution. This problem should be something that your product or service can solve, making your client’s brand the guide for the hero (your customer).

This is where you pull your audience in.

EXAMPLE: “I saw this IPL on TikTok and had to try it. My first impression is, why is nobody talking about this?!”

PRO TIP: Take it up another level by adding a visual hook that coincides with your verbal hook!
PRO RESOURCE: Don’t waste time trying to make these up. Instead, steal these proven 800+ killer hooks here.

Step 2: The Results (Before/After)

The second element in the StoryBrand method focuses on the problem that the customer encounters in their journey and how your product or service can provide a solution.

To apply this element to content creation, it's important to identify the problems your customers are facing and present your product or service as the solution to those problems.

EXAMPLE: “I have silky smooth hairless skin ALL over my body... and NEVER have to leave home.”

PRO TIP: In your script, you can describe your results using the “Before” and “After” phrase. Example: “Before I found Skinbliss, my legs were always hairy; after using Skinbliss for 3 weeks, my legs are soft and smooth.”

Step 3: Debunk a Well-Known Myth

The third element is to help the consumer debunk a well-known myth to build trust with them that you are a trustworthy guide.

For content creation, take the time to research myths around the product, industry or service you are showcasing.

EXAMPLE: “All at-home IPLs are NOT created equal.”

Step 4: Educational Value

This fourth element is very straightforward as it’s detailed information regarding the product or service.

For content creation, you will derive this info from the creative brief, brand website or meeting notes for each product.

EXAMPLE: “The Skinbliss IPL companion app tracks growth cycles, logs your custom sessions, and lets you know the exact settings for the best results.”

PRO TIP: Try to keep this short. Highlight the 3 most important details per the brand brief.

Step 5: Mindset + Fear Objection (Stop)

In the fifth element, it’s time to guide the consumer out of fear and let them know that if they stick with us, they will succeed.

In content creation, we relate to them by knowing how they are feeling and reassuring them.

EXAMPLE: “Stop spending thousands of dollars at medspas with painful treatments…”

PRO TIP: Using “Stop” for Step 5 and then “Start” for Step 6 makes it easy to combine the fear to success storytelling.

Step 6: Even Better Feature/Upgrade (Start)

The sixth element is where we show the success that will be achieved by sticking with us. It’s all about showcasing the upgraded value via feelings.

This is our final opportunity to sell, so we must demonstrate transformation and feelings.

EXAMPLE: “…and start spoiling yourself and your skin with the best IPL on the market.”

Step 7: Call to Action

You know what this element is all about! It’s the guide calling the hero (the consumer)to action.

Use the best possible call to action for your specific product or service and convert that sale for your client! (or yourself if you are making content for your brand)

PRO RESOURCE: Don’t waste time trying to make these up. Instead, steal these proven 100+ CTAs here.

Next Steps:

The best part about using this StoryBrand scriptwriting hack is that you can write all of your scripts before receiving the product!

How you start your day will set the tone for the rest of your day.

If you wake up and start worrying about all the things you need to do, you will feel stressed.

If you wake up and think about everything you didn’t do yesterday, you will feel inadequate.

If you wake up and think about how healthy you are and how lucky you are to have people who love you, you will feel abundant.

Waking up and feeling grateful will help you set a positive, healthy mindset for your entire day.

So, with that in mind, here are 10 gratitude prompts you can use to start your day off with positive vibes.

Pick 3 and use them for this Attitude of the Gratitude morning ritual:

  1. What are three things you are grateful for in your life right now? Why are they important to you?

  2. Think about a recent challenge you faced and overcame. What did you learn from that experience? What positive outcomes came from it?

  3. Think about a person who has made a positive impact on your life. What qualities do you admire in them, and how have they influenced you?

  4. Reflect on something you take for granted in your daily life. How would your life be different without it?

  5. Reflect on a time when someone showed you kindness. How did it make you feel, and what positive impact did it have on your life?

  6. What is something you appreciate about your health? Why are you grateful for it?

  7. What is something in your life that makes you feel happy? Why does it bring you joy, and how can you incorporate more of it into your life?

  8. Think about a skill or talent that you possess. How has it positively impacted your life, and what opportunities has it provided you?

  9. Think of three things you're looking forward to in the coming week and why you're excited about them.

  10. List three things about yourself that you're proud of and grateful for.

I’m so excited to share the Creative Genius behind Positively Social, Jessica Ciraulo.

Who is Jessica?

Jessica is a work-from-home momprenuer of two with a following of 70k+ engaged mothers seeking insights on products, recipes, and daily routines.

She focuses on motherhood, family wellness, and lifestyle routines and has worked with some big brands such as Keihls, Aveeno + Happy Mammoth.

We sat down with Jessica this week to learn more.

Shannon: What inspired you to become a content creator, and how did you get your start in the industry?

Jessica: I own a brand called MilkBliss, where we make and sell lactation cookies for breastfeeding moms. I became the "face" of that brand and the main content creator. I learned a lot through that, but I really fell in love with TikTok when it became popular.

Shannon Marie: How do you approach your creative process, and what techniques or tools do you use to stay inspired and productive?

Jessica: I am a full-time stay-at-home mom, so my life is very messy. I am fortunate enough to have regular work through inbounds, but I would say I work part-time as a content creator.

I get a lot of inspiration from other creators and the content they post. For tools, I love Canva, and CapCut, and I am attempting to learn Notion and Honeybook. My techniques change depending on the project.

Shannon Marie: What advice would you give aspiring content creators just starting out in the industry?

Jessica: If you don’t have a lot of experience, it will take time to get good at all aspects of content creation, but just start! There is plenty of room for new creators, and it’s a very collaborative and supportive space.

Give yourself 6 months of hard work and low expectations, and you'll be surprised how far you can get.

Shannon Marie: What's your favorite type of content to create and why?

Jessica: I love UGC because it’s very creative and collaborative with brands.

Shannon Marie: If you could have any celebrity cameo in your content, who would it be and why?

Jessica: Probably Rosa Picosa. I would love to learn her process and her values line up with mine.

Shannon: What type of collaborations are you open to for other Creators that are looking to collaborate?

Jessica: Anything! Collabs are so fun!

This week’s reminder:

You are the director of your own life. Don’t play the scripts written by others.

Thanks for sharing, Damon!
